Shah Alam, 21 November 2024 – IKRAM Works Sdn Bhd, a leader in engineering solutions, was recently awarded the Project Management Consultancy (PMC) role by Infrasel for a critical slope remedial project in Genting Peras, Hulu Langat, Selangor. Demonstrating their commitment to technology adoption and digital transformation, IKRAM Works showcased their innovative implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) for the project in a comprehensive technical presentation to Infrasel at their headquarters in Shah Alam.
Led by Mr. Mohd Farhan Bin Hasan, Assistant BIM Manager of IKRAM Works, the presentation aimed to deepen the understanding of BIM’s role in managing and executing slope remedial works. The session was attended by three key project representatives from Infrasel, who engaged enthusiastically with the content and hands-on demonstrations.
BIM: Driving Innovation in Slope Remediation
Mr. Farhan began the presentation by outlining the fundamentals of BIM, including its definition, maturity levels, Levels of Development (LOD), and the advantages and challenges of BIM implementation in Malaysia. Highlighting Malaysia’s current BIM adoption levels and government initiatives to promote the technology, he set the stage for a deeper dive into IKRAM Works’ expertise in applying BIM across various projects.
Showcasing completed and ongoing projects, Mr. Farhan provided case studies ranging from building projects to structural and slope remedial works, as well as road and infrastructure developments. These examples emphasized the benefits of BIM, such as improved collaboration, accurate cost estimation, and streamlined project execution, while also addressing challenges encountered during implementation.
BIM Implementation for Genting Peras Slope Remedial Project
The presentation then zoomed in on the on-going slope remedial project at Genting Peras. To demonstrate IKRAM Works’ BIM capabilities, the team introduced their BIM Process Workflow, which integrates advanced data collection and processing techniques:
- TLS and Drone Data Collection: Capturing PointCloud data for high-accuracy topographical analysis.
- Data Processing: Creating Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and Digital Surface Models (DSM).
- Software Integration: Using Autodesk ReCap Pro to merge DTM and DSM data into the Autodesk ecosystem.
- 3D Model Development: Building a detailed 3D model with Autodesk Civil3D, Infraworks, and Revit.
- Simulation and Analysis: Importing the model into Autodesk Navisworks for 4D and 5D BIM simulations, incorporating time and cost factors into project planning.
Interactive Demonstration and Positive Feedback
Attendees were treated to a live demonstration of the BIM tools used in the workflow. Hands on interactions with software such as Autodesk Civil3D, Infraworks, Revit, and Navisworks allowed participants to visualize how the project is being executed with BIM.
The session concluded with a lively Q&A segment where Infrasel representatives shared insights, asked pertinent questions, and expressed appreciation for the clarity of the presentation. “This session has significantly enhanced our understanding of BIM and its application to slope remedial works. IKRAM Works’ expertise and their approach to leveraging BIM are truly commendable,” said one of Infrasel’s representatives.
A Step Forward for Digital Engineering in Malaysia
IKRAM Works’ presentation underscores their role as a frontrunner in engineering solutions, embracing digital transformation to tackle complex projects. The positive reception from Infrasel signals greater collaboration and innovation in future projects, reinforcing IKRAM Works’ commitment to delivering excellence through technology.
“We are proud to showcase the value of BIM in addressing real-world engineering challenges. This milestone reflects our mission to be the ‘Centre of Engineering Solutions,’” said Mr. Farhan at the conclusion of the event.
The Genting Peras slope remedial project, supported by BIM, promises to set a new benchmark for efficiency, precision, and sustainability in infrastructure rehabilitation.
