Kuala Lumpur, 9 January 2025 – In line with embracing technological advancements and digitalization, IKRAM Works Sdn Bhd’s commitment to Building Information Modeling (BIM) was brought into focus during a special technical presentation held at the JKR Cawangan Kejuruteraan Cerun (JKR CKC) Headquarters, Jalan Sultan Salahuddin. The session, chaired by Tuan Ir. Mohd Shaifuddin Bin Abd Razak, Pengarah JKR CKC, highlighted the integration of BIM in construction projects, particularly infrastructure and slope remedial works.
Dato Ir. Ts. Hj. Mohd Taufik Bin Haron, CEO of IKRAM Works, led the BIM Team during the event. The team was represented by Mr. Mohd Farhan Bin Hasan, IKRAM’s Assistant BIM Manager, who delivered an insightful presentation that covered various aspects of BIM and its practical applications in slope remedial projects.
An Overview of BIM and Its Advantages
The presentation commenced with an introduction to BIM, providing a foundational understanding for the audience. Mr. Mohd Farhan elaborated on the definition of BIM, its maturity levels, Level of Development (LOD), and the challenges and opportunities of BIM adoption in Malaysia. He also shared insights into the government’s initiatives to encourage BIM implementation across the construction industry.
To showcase IKRAM’s expertise, completed and ongoing BIM projects from various disciplines were highlighted. These included building projects, structural remedial works, slope remedial efforts, and road and infrastructure developments. By discussing the processes and challenges encountered during these projects, Mr. Mohd Farhan illustrated the practical aspects of BIM execution, supported by real-world case studies.
Focusing on Slope Remedial Works
A key highlight of the presentation was the detailed explanation of BIM’s application in slope remedial projects. Dato Ir. Ts. Hj. Mohd Taufik shared the success story of the Genting Peras slope remedial project in Hulu Langat, Selangor.
The audience was guided through the BIM Process Workflow, which detailed each stage of the project’s execution. The workflow began with data collection using terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) and drone technology to generate PointCloud data. This was followed by processing the data to create Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and Digital Surface Models (DSM). The models were then integrated into the Autodesk ecosystem using ReCap Pro software. Utilizing Autodesk Civil 3D, Infraworks, and Revit, the team developed a comprehensive 3D model, which was later transferred to Autodesk Navisworks Manager for 4D and 5D BIM simulations.
Interactive Demonstration of BIM Tools
Mr. Mohd Affandi Bin Mohd Salleh, IKRAM’s BIM Coordinator, conducted a live demonstration of the BIM tools used in the project. The interactive session allowed participants to experience the software and gain a deeper understanding of the BIM Process Workflow. This hands-on approach ensured that the audience could appreciate the practical implementation of BIM for slope remedial works.
Positive Reception and Future Collaborations
The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment where attendees shared their thoughts, posed questions, and offered feedback on the presented materials. The participants’ enthusiasm reflected their growing interest in BIM and its potential to revolutionize slope remedial
projects.
JKR CKC expressed their gratitude to IKRAM BIM Team for the comprehensive and informative session. The event successfully enhanced the audience’s understanding of BIM’s implementation, particularly in slope-related projects, paving the way for future collaborations between IKRAM Works and JKR CKC.
This event marks a significant milestone in IKRAM’s journey towards advancing digital construction practices, further establishing the company as a leader in engineering solutions.
